An Open Day event titled "Young Specialist - A Step into the Future"
Within the framework of Sustainable Development Goals №17. Partnership for Sustainable Development
On October 24, 2024, the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan held an Open Day event titled "Young Specialist - A Step into the Future". The event was attended by B.S. Asanova, Senior Lecturer of the Department of World History, Historiography and Source Studies, Candidate of Historical Sciences, G.M. Abikova, Lecturer, and students of the 1st and 2nd courses of the "Library and Information Systems" specialty.
The aim of the event was to explain the importance of library activities in shaping qualified, innovative, and digitally literate librarians who meet the requirements of the modern labor market, and to showcase innovations in the service sector.
The role of librarians in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is important and multifaceted. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are a broad set of goals that affect all sectors of society. Accordingly, the role of librarians includes contributing to the achievement of the SDGs through education, access to information, and strengthening intercultural dialogue.
The Open Day on the topic "Young Specialist - A Step into the Future" began with an excursion for 1st-year students of the "Library Science" specialty to introduce them to new technologies, information systems and digital platforms, promote the library profession, and familiarize them with the activities of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
As part of the event dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goal "Decent Work and Economic Growth", A.Kh. Yusupov, Deputy Director of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Library Work, spoke about the history of the inclusion of the "Librarian's Day" holiday in the calendar - October 24, highlighted the features of the "Librarian" profession, and shared his own experience.
During the event, B.S. Asanova, Senior Lecturer of the Department of World History, Historiography and Source Studies, Candidate of Historical Sciences, G.I. Nurzhanova, Senior Lecturer of the Kazakh National Women's Teacher Training University, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Sh.B. Mukasheva, teacher of special disciplines at the Kaskelen College of Culture, discussed the professional development of young librarians in the direction of decent work and economic growth, mastering new technologies, information systems and digital platforms, strengthening their role in society through active involvement in projects related to economic and social problems of society, taking into account the digital economy and information technologies. An open question and answer session was also organized as an introduction to the profession and an intellectual game "ОйLIKE" was held to increase the interest of students.
In turn, the specialists of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan shared their thoughts and experience, answering the questions of the students of the "Library and Information Systems" specialty.
