SDG 4. Open lecture by Professor Dmitry Semikoz “Achievements of Astrophysics in the 21st century”

On October 31, an open lecture for high schoolchildren, students and scientists was held at the Faculty of Physics and Technology of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. An outstanding scientist, professor of the laboratory of astrophysics and cosmology, CNRS and the University of Paris-Cité, France, Dmitry Semikoz spoke for 2 hours about the latest achievements in Astrophysics and answered numerous questions from the audience. In his lecture, the Professor covered such topics as Features of optical astronomy, astronomy in a wide spectrum of waves from radio waves to gamma radiation, neutrino astronomy, neutron stars and black holes, gravitational waves, the origin of heavy elements.

There were many questions about experimental methods, clarification of educational literature materials, questions regarding the prospects for the development of astrophysics and the possibility of further employment in the chosen field. The Auditorium was attended by professors and teachers from the Faculty of Physics and Technology of KazNU, undergraduate students whose interests intersect with astrophysics, as well as 10th and 11th grade schoolchildren from Almaty and Talgar. The event was held within the framework of SDG 4 - quality education.
