On November 1, 2024, in Room 328 at the Faculty of Philology, Karymkhan Akmaral, a lecturer from the Department of Turkology and Language Theory, held a demo seminar on the topic “Why do people help each other? Can/Could/Would you ...? (Requests, offers, permission, and invitations)” with the first-year students of "Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages" major within the framework of "Practical Grammar of the First Foreign Language" course.
The seminar on the topic: "Why do people help each other?", engaged students in exploring motivations for kindness and support, along with practical usage of modal verbs in making requests, offers, and invitations. The session began with a warm-up discussion encouraging students to reflect on why people are drawn to help others. Before a brief presentation on "Can," "Could," and "Would," students watched a video illustrating these modal verbs in real-life scenarios. This was followed by an interactive "Helping Hands" poster activity, where students worked in groups to visually represent ways to help within their community, the environment, and at school. Each group incorporated modal verbs into their posters, presented their work, and performed short dialogues using the grammatical structures. The seminar effectively combined discussion, video learning, grammar practice, and creative group work, helping students understand both the motivation behind helping behaviors and practical language use. The open seminar was attended by teachers of the Department of Turkology and Language Theory.
