On October 31, 2024, students from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, who are members of the charitable organization "Komek," together with representatives of the Higher "Kömek," visited the retirement home "Meirim" to offer attention to the elderly and lift their spirits. The visit was organized as part of an initiative aimed at social support and interaction with the older generation, and it turned out to be a warm and heartfelt event.

This visit, like other "Komek" actions, is directly related to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 3 — Good Health and Well-being, SDG 10 — Reduced Inequality, SDG 16 — Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and SDG 17 — Partnerships for the Goals.

SDG 3 emphasizes the importance of improving the health and well-being of every individual. The students' visit became an excellent opportunity to improve the emotional well-being of elderly residents, bringing them joy and positive emotions. The songs, dances, and games created a festive atmosphere, helping to reduce stress and loneliness, which are important aspects of care for the older generation's health.

"Komek" initiatives also contribute to SDG 10 — Reduced Inequality. Elderly people, especially those living in retirement homes, often experience isolation and social inequality. Events like this visit help bridge the gap between generations, creating opportunities for equal communication and integration, and reducing the social inequality experienced by many elderly individuals.

SDG 16 — Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions is closely related to such initiatives, as these visits strengthen social unity and help create a more just and inclusive society. The exchange of emotions and experiences between young people and the elderly fosters respect for the older generation and supports the idea of social justice and peace for all members of society.

Finally, SDG 17 — Partnerships for the Goals underpins this event. The visit became an example of successful partnership between students, the retirement home, and the wider community, uniting efforts to improve the well-being of elderly people. Such cooperation highlights the importance of joint efforts in addressing social problems and advancing sustainable development goals.

The students, who prepared gifts and a show program, met with the elderly residents, who were happy to receive them. During the visit, the "Kömek" participants held a concert, performing songs, dances, and even organizing small games in which the elderly took part. This created a festive atmosphere and brought smiles to both the elderly residents and the young people, who eagerly accepted the gratitude expressed by the seniors. The communication was especially meaningful: for many of the residents of the retirement home, such visits are a chance to feel needed and to recall the warm moments of their past.

During their conversations, the elderly shared their stories, experiences, and wisdom, which the students highly valued, considering it a valuable legacy. This was not just a meeting but an exchange of knowledge and emotions that enriched both sides.

The retirement home "Meirim" always strives to create a cozy and safe environment for its residents, but the visits from young people make their stay here more joyful and diverse. Such events not only bring positive emotions but also support initiatives related to the social integration and well-being of the elderly. Thanks to the active involvement of young people, the care for the older generation becomes an integral part of society’s life.

At the end of the visit, the students from "Kömek" expressed their willingness to continue similar actions and support the residents of the retirement home. They emphasized that such meetings are important for both sides, as they help maintain a connection between generations, strengthen human values, and foster respect for the older generation among young people.
