SDG-4. Media and information literacy in higher education
The I International Autumn Media School, organized in 2016, coincided with the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Department of Journalism and Communications. The Autumn School, held as part of the Global Media and Information Literacy Week, has lectured and conducted practical classes for young journalists, PR specialists, student practitioners, professors, and scientists in the media environment of the United States, Europe, and Russia over the years. The school was attended by young specialists from Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Media information literacy is the effective use, critical assessment, correct understanding, perception, expertise, competent creation and dissemination of information and media products. Improving these skills, competencies and qualifications, and participating in the creation of a safe, equitable digital society is the goal of the Autumn School. This year's fall school was held in a hybrid format. Dean of the Faculty of Journalism Temirgali Kopbayev wished success to the participants of the media school and stressed the importance of the Global Week in creating a safe, fair, inclusive society.
Since 2007, the international Organization UNESCO has been carrying out comprehensive work to improve the information, digital and technological competence of the media. This year's Global Week was dedicated to multilateral cooperation in the field of digital space and digital platforms. Sergey Karpov, specialist of the Communications and Information Department of the UNESCO Cluster Office, noted the 16th Sustainable Development Goal and spoke about the impact of media information literacy on the development of Sustainable Development Goals and improving the quality of education. The representative of the international organization Internews-Kazakhstan, Bella Orynbetova, taught the technique of writing text with interesting cases in the storytelling format, creating storytelling content. Aybar Olzhai, General Manager of the External Relations Service of the Kazakhstan Sustainability Fund JSC, spoke about the tasks and methods of anti-crisis communication, ways of creative solutions. The students of the media school listened with interest to lectures and practical cases by Tlek Abdrakhimov, Corporate Communications Manager of Air Astana JSC, and Lyazzat Alzhanova, Director of Corporate Communications at Astana Group.
Gulmira Dzhunushalieva, Head of the Department of Advertising and Public Relations at the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic (Kyrgyz) University, Galina Zueva, Associate Professor at Penza State University (Russia), PhD student at the University of Debrecen (Hungary), Nazira Abdinasyr, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Dosz in Hungary, and others also took part in the autumn school.Psychological effects in Media Marketing ", etc.
