Research Trip of the "Written Heritage and Spiritual Legacy" Research Center Staff to Semey within the Framework of the SDG "Quality Education"
From September 17-19, 2024, within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goal "Quality Education," Professor Z. Shadkam, Director of the Research Center "Written Monuments and Spiritual Heritage " at Al-Farabi KazNU, and researcher PhD O. Tuyakbayev visited the city of Semey on a research trip. The main purpose of the trip was to conduct a lecture-seminar at Shakarim University on the topic "The Role of Livestock in Folk Medicine in Medieval Turkic Medical Works."
The lecture-seminar took place in the J. Ushkempirov Auditorium in Building 5, attended by 53 people, including university faculty, researchers, and students.
The event covered the traditional healing culture of the Kazakh people, including methods of treating livestock. These studies are based on information from medieval Turkic medical manuscripts and reveal the special role of animals in folk medicine.
The trip was organized as part of the research project AP19675139 "The Heritage of Medieval Turkic Medicine in Persian: 'Tansuq-nameh Ilkhani,' 'Asrar al-atibba’.' In addition to summarizing the research on the role of livestock in folk medicine, the scholars examined rare manuscripts in the Agash Mosque and the Abay Museum in Semey. They reviewed 24 manuscript books from the Agash Mosque collection, as well as rare books from the Abay Museum's collection. These sources are especially valuable for research, enabling a historical assessment of traditional medicine and healing methods. A bibliographic study was also conducted to gather and analyze data on folk healing practices used among the local population.
This research trip is a significant step in studying the medieval medical traditions of the Kazakh people and introducing them into scientific circulation. These activities have drawn the attention of the academic community to the preservation of national heritage and its transmission to future generations.
