As part of the SDG «Partnership for Sustainable Development,» a renowned Russian scholar visits the faculty of Oriental Studies

On November 14, 2024, the Faculty of Oriental Studies received a special visit from Professor Vladimir G. Datsyshen, a distinguished Sinologist from Siberian Federal University in Russia. Professor Datsyshen, a prominent historian, is a well-regarded specialist in the history of relations between Russia, Mongolia, China, and Japan during the 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as in the ethnic history of South Siberia and the migration of Chinese and Japanese people to Russia.

After an official meeting with the university administration, Professor Datsyshen, on his own initiative, visited the Faculty of Oriental Studies to meet with scholars from the faculty. He was welcomed by Vice Dean for Research and International Relations, Saya Bolatkhanovna Alipova, and Head of the Department of Chinese Studies, Yerzhan Kerimbaev. Following his tour of the university’s Confucius Institute, he met with the Institute’s director, Rakhimzhan Asylbekov, and acquainted himself with the operations and activities of various departments.

Professor Datsyshen also held a meeting with Nabizhan Mukametkhanuly, Director of the Center for Contemporary China Studies, where they discussed pressing issues regarding the development of Chinese studies. Additionally, he met with Zubaida Shadkam, Director of the Research Center for "Written Relics and Spiritual Heritage." Throughout the visit, faculty scholars and Professor Datsyshen exchanged views on strengthening academic contacts and expressed their readiness for close collaboration in the future.
