Sustainable Development Goals and their Impact on Economic Growth
On November 28, 2024, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Economics and Management of Shakarim University in Semey, PhD in Economics Kuantkan Bibolat Kuantkanuly met with 3rd year students of OP 6B04103-Economics and held a leadership lecture on the topic "Sustainable Development Goals and their Impact on Economic Growth". Bibolat Kuantkanuly is improving his qualifications at the Institute of Qualification and Continuing Education of the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi.
The lecturer explained that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a UN initiative aimed at making the world economically, socially and environmentally sustainable by 2030 and emphasized that there is a close relationship between economic growth and the SDGs, since sustainable development is based on a strong economic foundation.
The impact of the SDGs on economic growth can be seen through the following goals: 1) employment and income growth (SDG 8), that is, the creation of decent jobs and increased labor productivity is the main factor in economic growth and the ability to reduce income inequality through the development of small and medium-sized businesses. 2) development of innovation and infrastructure (SDG 9), that is, investments in innovation contribute to the introduction of new technologies and increased production efficiency. 3) reducing inequality and inclusive growth (SDG 10), this is reducing inequality in income, education and opportunities ensures the availability of economic resources for all. 4) environmental sustainability (SDG 13), that is, the efficient use of natural resources and the transition to a green economy are important for long-term economic growth.
The lecturer noted that Kazakhstan is actively working on the implementation of the SDGs, this is assessed by the strategy for the transition to a "green economy", investments in renewable energy sources are carried out in large volumes, and improving infrastructure and quality education in rural areas (SDG 4) will contribute to long-term economic growth.
