On November 27, as part of the international campaign “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence,” the Department of History of Kazakhstan at the Faculty of History of Kazakh National University, in collaboration with the Union of Crisis Centers of Kazakhstan and the Public Development Department of Almaty, organized a youth dialogue platform titled “Be the Power of Good!” within the framework of the social project “Ayauly Zhan.”
Gross human rights violations, particularly violence against women and girls, remain widespread across Europe and Central Asia. In Kazakhstan, every third crime is committed against women. Violence hinders women’s full participation in social life and often goes unnoticed. During the dialogue platform, organized to raise awareness among young people and gather their feedback, participants discussed solutions to this issue and its legal framework. Students from the Faculties of History, Mechanics and Mathematics, Physics and Technology, and Law actively participated in this important event, asking questions and sharing their thoughts.
The guests and speakers of the dialogue platform included UNFPA Ambassador Akmarzhan Kusherbayeva and renowned lawyer Aliya Omarova, who drew young people’s attention to the issues of gender-based violence and conducted educational sessions aimed at fostering an active stance against all its forms. Associate professors of the Department of History of Kazakhstan at the Faculty of History, E.N. Noyanov, F.A. Kozybakova, Associate Professor N.A. Tasilova, PhD G.Z. Iskakova, J.M. Bekbauova, as well as the leaders of the “Ayauly Zhan” project, G.M. Saparova and A.S. Malikova, contributed to the organization of this event.
