Visit to the Educational Meteorological Site and the Center for Collection and Archiving of Operational Meteorological Information at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University

As part of the course "Air Pollution Control," fourth-year students of the "Chemical Engineering" educational program visited the Educational Meteorological Site and the Center for Collection and Archiving of Operational Meteorological Information at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The excursion was organized by Ph.D. A.S. Omarova, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Analytical, colloid chemistry and technology of rare elements, and Ph.D. M.O. Tursumbaeva, Senior Lecturer of the Department of meteorology and hydrology of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences. The event contributes to achieving SDG 13 – Climate Action (13.3 Education and Awareness Raising on Environmental Protection). 

During the excursion, students became acquainted with the operations of the meteorological site, where measurements of wind speed and direction, solar radiation, air humidity, and temperature are conducted. They also explored the processes of data analysis and meteorological forecasting. The knowledge gained demonstrated the importance of meteorological conditions in assessing air quality and the necessity of integrating meteorological instruments with equipment for monitoring atmospheric pollutant concentrations.
