A New Stage in the Development of Education and Science

29 january, 2025

On January 28, 2025, under the chairmanship of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, an expanded meeting of the Government was held. During this session, the progress of the country’s socio-economic development was reviewed, and future plans were discussed. The Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, defined the main goal of the meeting as “improving the well-being of citizens” and highlighted other pressing issues. These include economic diversification, raising infrastructure development to a new level, comprehensive implementation of digital technologies, energy development and the creation of a nuclear cluster, increasing the potential of the agro-industrial complex, reforming tax and budget policies, securing financial resources for major projects, improving social support, as well as further advancing healthcare, education, and science.
Undoubtedly, the most important aspect for us is enhancing the global competitiveness of Kazakhstan’s education and science. The world today is not just changing daily but every moment, with globalization accelerating at an unprecedented pace. Changes that once took years now happen in an instant. Time moves forward unstoppably, and the values humanity has upheld for centuries are undergoing transformation. Scholars analyzing these phenomena conclude that the rapid development of science and education, along with the emergence of new technologies, is the driving force behind these changes. Indeed, we all feel that time seems to be speeding up, and at the core of this shift lies the extraordinary growth of knowledge and science. Such global trends are also clearly evident in our society. The key task is to quickly adapt to these changes and build a high-quality society. This important step was vividly reflected in the extended session of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, chaired by the Head of State.
The socio-economic development objectives set by the President are the fundamental principles guiding the nation’s progress. During the session, strategic directions and implementation mechanisms were clearly defined. A firm stance was taken on the need to establish a new approach to the development of education and science, as well as to expand state support in this field. This directive from Kassym-Jomart Kemelovich serves as the foundation for large-scale initiatives, as education and science are among the key priorities for national development. The Government’s future work plans and programs will be based on these priorities.
To continue achieving such progress, frequent reforms and transformations are being introduced in the country’s education system. This is a necessity dictated by the demands of the times. The objectives set by the President are being fully implemented at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Providing students with education that meets modern demands and supporting their social well-being is the university’s core principle. Today, this distinguished institution is not only a place of learning but also a scientific research center. Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, recognized among the world’s top universities and meeting the highest international academic standards, continues to contribute extensively to the advancement of education and science. This is a shared mission for all scholars at the university.
