Celebration of Chinese New Year “春节” at the Faculty of Oriental Studies

On February 5, a cultural and educational event titled “春节” (Chinese New Year) was held at the Faculty of Oriental Studies under the guidance of Nurzhan Baltazhanovna Saparbaeva, the advisor of the Department of Chinese Studies. The event was attended by E.A. Kerimbaev, head of the Department of Chinese Studies, A.B. Abagan, head of the Department of Far Eastern Studies, faculty members of the Department of Chinese Studies, as well as first-year students, master’s students, and doctoral candidates. The goal of the event was to provide an in-depth understanding of the history, significance, and traditions of Chinese New Year. Students and master’s students gained valuable information about Chinese New Year, its traditions, ways of celebration, and learned about traditional Chinese New Year dishes.
Additionally, participants prepared a traditional Chinese New Year feast and participated in the celebrations, sharing in the joy of the holiday. Among the participants were master’s students from China, who shared their personal experiences and talked about the celebrations in their country. First-year students actively asked questions in Chinese about the traditions of celebrating Chinese New Year.
In addition to theoretical knowledge, the participants were also introduced to traditional Chinese games and quizzes, and discussed the importance of Chinese customs, such as the tradition of giving red envelopes (红包), and the rituals associated with this holiday.
This cultural event not only allowed students to expand their knowledge of Chinese culture and language but also significantly improved their communication skills, providing them with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a Chinese holiday.
