Field Lecture on Ecosystem Restoration in Almaty Reserve
On February 20, 2025, Associate Professor of the UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development at the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management, Tursunkul Amankeldievna Bazarbaeva, conducted a field lecture for third-year students of the "Ecology" educational program on the subject "Restoration of Disturbed Ecosystems". The session took place in a unique natural area – the Almaty State Nature Reserve.
As part of the event, students had the opportunity to gain practical knowledge about the principles of ecosystem restoration and conservation. The reserve's ecologists presented a museum exhibition, providing detailed insights into rare and endemic species of the region, their vulnerability, and the measures taken to protect them. During the guided tour of the reserve, inspectors explained the characteristics of local ecosystems, their natural recovery mechanisms, and the impact of human activities on biodiversity.
This field-based lesson not only expanded students' knowledge about the flora and fauna of the reserve but also allowed them to witness conservation efforts firsthand. They acquired valuable practical skills and deepened their understanding of the importance of their future profession in preserving and restoring ecosystems.
