21 february, 2025

Faculties of the Faculty of Physics and Technology at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University participated in a workshop on promoting scientific content on LinkedIn. The event was held in a hybrid format, with an in-person session at American Spaces (Baizakova 280, Smart Point) and an online session via Zoom.

LinkedIn – A Tool for Popularizing Science

The speaker of the workshop was Shugyla Sagynbekova, a specialist in SMM, PR, and community management. The workshop aimed at developing researchers' personal brands, promoting their publications, establishing scientific connections, and finding international partners.

LinkedIn is not only a platform for job searching but also a key tool for disseminating scientific research. Currently, over 800 million users actively engage with the platform, and researchers and educators can use it to:

  • Expand scientific collaborations and partnerships;
  • Promote their research and publications;
  • Engage with international experts;
  • Find grants, investors, and partners for research projects.

How to Effectively Promote Scientific Content?

During the workshop, participants learned about the key principles of setting up a professional academic profile on LinkedIn, including:
✅ Filling in information about scientific activities (specialization, publications, projects);
✅ Choosing a high-quality profile photo and background image reflecting the professional field;
✅ Creating a content plan for regularly posting scientific materials, case studies, and personal achievements;
✅ Interacting with other researchers through comments, reposts, and participation in professional discussions.

A key focus was placed on how to promote scientific publications on LinkedIn. Faculty members were introduced to strategies for boosting the visibility of their academic papers, including:
🔹 Announcing research publications in scientific journals and databases (Scopus, Web of Science);
🔹 Explaining key research findings in accessible language for a broader audience;
🔹 Using short videos and infographics to engage followers.

Implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The workshop contributed to the realization of several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • SDG 4: Quality Education – training instructors in scientific content promotion help disseminate knowledge and make it accessible to a wider audience.
  • SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure – using digital platforms to promote research fosters the development of an innovative ecosystem and strengthens scientific connections.

Participants highlighted the practical value of the workshop, particularly in the popularization of research, increasing attention to their publications, and expanding international academic collaborations.

The Faculty of Physics and Technology of KazNU continues to support initiatives aimed at digitalizing science, advancing research, and actively engaging in the global academic community.
