Professional excursion for students to the Center for Rehabilitation and Addiction Therapy

10 february, 2025

On February 10, 2025, a professional tour was conducted to the Sober Road Addiction Rehabilitation and Therapy Center, organized as part of the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 3: Ensuring a healthy lifestyle and promoting well-being for all at any age. Subgoal 3.5 is "Strengthening the prevention and treatment of substance dependence." The topic of the tour is "The psychology of addiction: from causes to effective rehabilitation methods".

Undergraduates and bachelors of the specialty "Psychology" attended the tour as participants.

The organizers were: PhD candidate, associate professor Kassen G.A.; 2nd year master's student of the educational program "Clinical Psychology" Sarieva E.M.

The tour included an introduction to modern approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of addiction, as well as the mechanisms of psychosocial support for patients at various stages of rehabilitation.

As part of the tour, S.A. Belov, an employee of the psychological laboratory of the Sober Road Center, gave an introductory lecture on addiction, where he highlighted the key mechanisms of addictive behavior formation and presented modern effective rehabilitation methods. The 12 Steps Rehabilitation Program for Alcoholism and Drug Addiction was also presented, which was first used back in 1949 at the Hazelden Clinic (Minnesota). The participants were convinced that the 12-step program underlying the most effective rehabilitation processes is really aimed at restoring all spheres of human life (the wheel of life balance), after comprehensive treatment of addictions.

The tour participants also visited a psychological laboratory and listened to presentations by the curators of rehabilitation groups, who shared their practical experience working with clients, talked about methods of preventing breakdowns and ways to help in crisis situations. The tour took place in the format of an active dialogue, giving participants the opportunity to ask questions and discuss real-life examples from clinical practice, which enriched their knowledge and professional skills.
