On March 12, 2025, the Department of Religious Studies and Cultural Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University organized a round table discussion on “Preventing Destructive Movements – The Key to Kazakhstan’s Stability.” The event gathered leading experts in religious studies and theology, scholars, faculty members, and students.
Purpose of the Event
The round table aimed to discuss measures to prevent religious extremism, enhance religious literacy in society, and ensure Kazakhstan’s stability.
Expert Opinions
Distinguished guests included Kanatali Haji Takyrov Bakytuly, Bayan Kuralbaykyzy Ayapova, and Almaz Aybaruly Boken. They shared valuable insights on Kazakhstan’s religious landscape, the causes of destructive movements, and ways to counteract them.
Kanatali Haji Takyrov Bakytuly emphasized the importance of religious education as the most effective tool in preventing extremism. He also highlighted the role of Kazakhstan’s traditional religious schools and explained how the Hanafi school and Maturidi doctrine contribute to societal stability.
Meanwhile, Almaz Aybaruly Boken discussed the importance of religious literacy among young people and issues of information security. He proposed mechanisms to counteract the spread of destructive ideologies on social media.
