Urban ecology as a tool for implementing SDG 11
On March 14, 2025, a scientific and educational event took place in zoology-19 auditorium of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management. An open discussion lesson on "Theoretical Foundations of Urban Ecology" was conducted by Aitolkyn Alimuratkyzy, a doctoral student of the "8D05205 Geoecology and Environmental Management" program, for 2nd-year students of the "6B05202 – Ecology" educational program as part of the course "Human and Urban Ecology".
This open class was based on the principles of the 11th Sustainable Development Goal – "Sustainable Cities and Communities", which is one of the most pressing global challenges today.
An increase in the population in cities, the development of transport infrastructure, and an increase in industrial and household waste lead to a violation of the environmental balance. In this regard, the field of urbaecology plays an important role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The open class provided students studying ecology with an opportunity to understand the importance of their contribution to the sustainable development of cities as future professionals.
