«The category of chronotope in works of fiction»

On 27 February 2025, under the guidance of the head of the Department of Kazakh Literature and Theory of Literature of the Faculty of Philology, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Temirbolat Alua Berikbaevna, doctoral student of the 1st year in «Literary Studies» specialty Almaskhankyzy Arailym held an open lecture and seminar on the topic: «The category of chronotope in works of fiction» for students of the 3rd year of Literary Studies major. The lecture and seminar were implemented within the framework of the 4th SDG-«Quality Education». In the open lecture and seminar pedagogue and psychologist, teachers of the department, as well as the head of pedagogical practice, senior lecturer of the Department of Kazakh Literature and Theory of Literature, Doctor of Philological Sciences Bolatova Gulzhan Zhambylоvna took part.
The main purpose of the lecture was to provide students with a deep understanding of the meaning of chronotope in works of fiction, as well as to analyse the relationship between the categories of time and space in literature. The seminar discussed how chronotope is formed in works of fiction, its application according to genres and its influence on the structure and content of works. Students developed skills of multifaceted interpretation of literary works, deeply mastering this concept.
During the lecture, the students were presented with theoretical information and specific literary examples, allowing for a deeper understanding of the topic. During the open seminar, students exchanged opinions and participated in discussions on the topic «The role of chronotope in works of fiction». Various methods were used in the seminar. The students were asked questions to link the concepts of time and space through brainstorming method, which tested their creative thinking skills. Each group was given works of their choice and they showed the features of chronotope in these works and analysed them. Through word game and interactive discussion methods, each student was given the opportunity to express their thoughts and share them with the audience. In addition, feedback conducted on Padlet's online platform clarified students' questions and suggestions, making the workshop more effective and interesting.
As a result of the seminar, the students gained a deeper understanding of the role of chronotope in works of fiction and improved their skills in analysing and interpreting texts. The open seminar promoted students' critical thinking and provided new scientific perspectives on the problems of time and space in works of fiction.
