The Distribution of Microorganisms in Nature
On March 27, 2025, as part of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG) – «Quality Education» and pedagogical practice, an open seminar-class on the topic «The Distribution of Microorganisms in Nature» was held. The event was organized by G. Sarsenbayeva, a first-year PhD student of the educational program «8D05205 - Geoecology and Environmental Management», under the supervision of G. Mukanova, Associate Professor of the UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Development.
The open lesson aimed to define the role of microorganisms in ecosystems and the patterns of their distribution, analyze the impact of environmental factors on microorganisms, and study the characteristics of their habitat.
The seminar-class was conducted in the format of a simulation game and a quiz (question and answer). In addition, discussions covered topics such as environmental safety, the role of microbial communities in combating pollution, and sustainable development strategies.
The event was designed to contribute to the implementation of the following Sustainable Development Goals:
- SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation: Monitoring the dynamics of microorganisms in water resources
- SDG 13 – Climate Action: The impact of microbiological processes on the carbon cycle
- SDG 15 – Life on Land: Preserving the stability of soil microflora
