On February 15, 2025, Gulshat Amirkhanova , the curator of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data, held a round table discussion on "Poverty Eradication" with the students of the Data Science major, group 22-08, 3rd year, Russian stream.
Poverty is not just a lack of material resources but also the inability to meet basic human needs, access education and healthcare, and the vulnerability to economic and social risks. One of the most crucial Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations for 2030 is SDG 1 – "No Poverty," which aims to eliminate poverty in all its forms and for all people worldwide.
This goal draws the attention of the global community to the fight against poverty and focuses on improving people's quality of life through various socio-economic measures.
The students discussed and analyzed the following key objectives under SDG 1:
Eradicating all forms of poverty
By 2030, reduce to zero the number of people living below the international poverty line (earning less than $2.15 per day).
Reducing poverty
Significantly lower the national poverty rate, paying special attention to vulnerable groups such as women, children, persons with disabilities, and the elderly.
Strengthening the social protection system
Develop social assistance and insurance systems for the poor and vulnerable groups to ensure a minimum standard of living.
Increasing access to resources
Provide the poor and vulnerable groups with access to essential services, land ownership, financial services, including microloans.
Enhancing economic, social, and environmental resilience
Strengthen support measures for people affected by economic crises, natural disasters, and social upheavals.
