Educational Immersion into History: A Museum Tour at KazNU Named After Al-Farabi

1 april, 2025

As part of studying and promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the students from groups PG-8, PG-9, PG-12, and PG-17 of the Department of Language and General Education for Foreigners at KazNU named after al-Farabi participated in an unforgettable tour of the university museum. Under the guidance of curator-advisors and senior lecturers—Matsko I.V., Turebekova R.S., Musaeva G.A., and Mamytbekova L.K.—the students had a unique opportunity to connect with the rich history and cultural traditions of one of the country’s leading universities. This allowed them to gain practical experience by engaging with historical documents, rare exhibits, ancient ornaments, and the university’s cultural values, thereby broadening their horizons.

The museum, which serves as a repository of the university’s memory and cultural-historical values, welcomed its guests with warmth and attention. Museum staff member Kasymova B.A. led an engaging tour, providing a detailed account of the university’s formation, its mission, and its significance for cultural heritage. The focus was not only on the past but also on the current state of the university, its achievements, and its prospects for sustainable development.

The museum’s exhibition is spread across three spacious halls: the History Gallery, the Hall of Glory, and the Hall of Sustainable Development. Special attention was given to the distinguished alumni—winners in science and sports, Olympic champions—whose achievements continue to inspire new generations of students.

Presenting the university’s history and showcasing its cultural heritage helps to strengthen young people’s trust in educational programs and cultural institutions. Organizing the tour under the guidance of our experienced lecturers and museum staff highlights the importance of cooperation among various university structures. The collaborative efforts of lecturers, students, and museum personnel serve as a vivid example of partnership aimed at achieving sustainable development through education and cultural exchange.

Thus, the tour became a clear example of how the educational process can be enriched with living history, culture, and respect for traditions, enhancing students’ knowledge and playing a crucial role in strengthening cultural resilience, civic awareness, and partnerships—all fully in line with the principles and objectives of the SDGs.
