As part of the IV International Farabi Forum, a practice-oriented workshop titled “How to Avoid Predatory Journals Among International Publications: Scopus and Web of Science” was successfully held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The event was organized by the Department of Finance and Accounting in cooperation with the Center for Economic Research. The speaker of the workshop was Alimshan Faizulaev, Associate Professor of Finance, Director of Research at Bang College of Business, and Project Coordinator at the ESG Center, KIMEP University. The workshop addressed pressing issues related to research ethics, academic integrity, and criteria for selecting quality scientific journals indexed in international databases.
Special emphasis was placed on practical aspects of identifying predatory journals, recognizing unethical editorial practices, and using tools to assess the reliability and academic value of publishing platforms. Participants discussed the challenges faced by early-career researchers when choosing journals, methods for verifying indexing, and the broader impact of the publishing environment on the quality of scientific research.
The workshop generated keen interest among faculty members, doctoral students, and researchers striving for international academic integration and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
The open dialogue format and the speaker’s professional insights enabled a fruitful discussion, fostering academic culture and the development of sustainable skills in responsible scholarly writing.
