The Faculty of Physics and Technology took part in the preparations for the Regional Info Day of Cluster 5 of the Horizon Europe programme. SDG 7 and 9.

On May 16, 2025, a preliminary hearing of pitch presentations was held as part of preparations for the Regional Info Day of Cluster 5 of the Horizon Europe programme, which aims to foster international scientific cooperation between Central Asian countries and the European Union.
The event was organized by the National Coordination Center of the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation in Kazakhstan in cooperation with the Science Fund JSC. During the pitch session, representatives of Kazakhstani universities and research institutions presented their organizations, shared their experience in international programmes, and outlined their areas of interest and relevant calls under the current Horizon Europe work programmes.
The Faculty of Physics and Technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University was represented by the Vice-Dean for Research and International Relations, Svetlana Pesheva, who presented the faculty’s key research areas, including sustainable energy, nanotechnology, nuclear and space physics, as well as the application of artificial intelligence in science.
Special emphasis was placed on the faculty’s contribution to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including ensuring access to clean energy, developing innovation and infrastructure, and building partnerships for sustainable development (SDG 7 and SDG 9).
The hearing was conducted in English and marked an important milestone in the preparation for the Regional Info Day, which will provide practical guidance on participating in Horizon Europe calls for research organizations from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.
Horizon Europe is the EU’s flagship research and innovation programme with a budget of €95.5 billion. Increasing the participation of Central Asian countries in calls, establishing national contact networks, and appointing national contact points for Cluster 5 reflect ongoing efforts to strengthen scientific partnerships with the EU and engage in global research processes.
