How recycling habits can have a global impact

3 june, 2025

On June 3, 2025, the senior lecturers of the Department of Turkology and Language Theory at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Kamila Dushaeva and Fariza Abdullayeva, held an open educational session for  the group  curated by them in honor of World Environment Day. The event topic was  “How Recycling Habits Can Have a Global Impact.”

Today, environmental issues are among the most pressing concerns on the global agenda. In particular, fostering a culture of recycling is a crucial factor for the future of our planet. Each year, millions of tons of waste end up in oceans, forests, and soil, causing severe harm to nature. In this context, every individual's actions can be the starting point for significant change.

During the session,  the students were presented with facts about the importance of recycling and the environmental impact of plastic and household waste. Through slides and posters, they were introduced to methods of waste sorting, reuse, and the principles of zero waste. The event also included short poems and thought-provoking quotes on environmental topics. Students shared their opinions and engaged in open discussion.

In the Q&A segment, students actively participated and shared their eco-friendly habits in daily life. Some spoke about saving water and electricity, while others proposed initiatives aimed at recycling paper, plastic, and glass.

This educational hour not only raised students’ environmental awareness but also encouraged them to care for nature, consume responsibly, and take personal responsibility. At the end of the event, participants expressed their willingness to contribute to integrating recycling practices into everyday life.
