KAZNU AND THE MINISTRY OF ECOLOGY AND NATURAL RESOURCES HAVE PREPARED A ROADMAP

A working meeting of representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the leadership and scientific community of the University was held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Margulan Ibraimov, Member of the Board and Vice–Rector for Research and Innovation at KazNU, presented a presentation on the activities and potential of KazNU's research and innovation centers and laboratories.
Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Nurlan Kurmalayev, in turn, stressed the importance and relevance of cooperation between the Ministry and the University and shared his vision of the future.
"The use of supercomputer technologies and KazNU remote sensing data will allow us to more effectively predict natural processes and monitor the state of the environment. Our partnership with KazNU is the key to the development of environmentally sound solutions in the country", - said Vice Minister N.Kurmalaev.
He also highlighted key areas of cooperation, including monitoring the state of atmospheric air using remote sensing data, monitoring forest ecosystems and biodiversity. According to his environmentalists, an important element of cooperation is the development of environmentally sound technologies within the framework of the Green Technologies registry, aimed at supporting innovation at the national and international levels. In addition, as part of the scientific and technical partnership, it is planned to organize monitoring of landfills of solid household waste and identify illegal landfills using modern satellite data. The purpose of such measures is to promptly detect the sources of pollution and take measures to eliminate them.
The meeting also discussed areas of cooperation with various relevant committees and organizations, including the Forestry Committee, the Environmental Regulation Committee, as well as research institutes and state-owned enterprises. Special attention was paid to the prospects of joint research of the bottom of the Aral Sea, which is in a state of drying, and the possibility of restoring the ecosystem by planting saxaul.
During the visit, the delegation got acquainted with the leading scientific and innovative structures of the university, including the FARABI HUB, the Competence Center for Robotics and Mechatronics, the Scientific Center for Sustainable Development and Environmental Management, the Kazakh-Chinese Laboratory for Remote Sensing of the Earth and a supercomputer cluster, the Center for Engineering and High-Tech Technologies and the Farabi Chem Center.
During the event, a session was held in the departments of Geography and Environmental Management, biology and biotechnology, chemistry and chemical technology. As a result, a roadmap was prepared to strengthen and develop cooperation between the University and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.
