On August 27, 2025, the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held its traditional meeting for first-year students and their parents. The event was attended by the Vice Dean for Scientific and Innovative Work and International Relations, Roza Farkhatovna Sabirova, the Vice Dean for Academic, Methodological, and Educational Work, Aigerim Kuandykovna Sakhaeva, as well as heads of departments and their deputies.

The main purpose of the meeting was to introduce new students to the faculty’s structure, academic staff, and the opportunities offered by the university, as well as to answer questions from parents.

On the eve of the new academic year, students and their parents received detailed information about the history of the faculty, its educational programs, research directions, student life, and social support measures. The faculty administration explained the specifics of the educational process, accommodation in dormitories, the activities of student organizations, and other important aspects.

Special attention was given to the faculty’s contribution to global initiatives. In particular, the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics actively participates in the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals cover 17 areas, including poverty eradication, quality education, gender equality, climate action, and more.

The faculty contributes to these goals through scientific research, educational programs, and student projects. In collaboration with UNESCO’s Chair for Sustainable Development, the faculty encourages young people to develop environmental literacy, use resources responsibly, and take part in socially and scientifically significant projects. For example, within SDG 4 Quality Education, students were introduced to modern opportunities for comprehensive learning; within SDG 10 Reduced Inequalities, social support measures and dormitory placement ensure equal opportunities for all students; and within SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals, cooperation between parents, students, and the faculty administration has been strengthened, enhancing the effectiveness of the educational process.

At the end of the meeting, students and parents received answers to many of their questions. The faculty administration emphasized that each student will receive comprehensive support throughout their studies and that all conditions will be created for their professional and personal development.

This meeting became an important step in helping first-year students adapt to their new environment, establish initial connections with teachers and the faculty administration, and ensure a successful start to the academic year.
