KazNU hosts a forum of space industry specialists

The international forum Space Days Kazakhstan - 2025 is being held at the Al–Farabi Kazakh National University with the support of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

 

The purpose of the forum is to strengthen strategic cooperation in the field of space, the development of modern technologies and the integration of scientific, educational and industrial potential.

The event is attended by representatives of more than 50 countries, including qualified specialists from the space industry, delegations from international agencies, universities, research centers and businesses.

At the official opening ceremony, Zhanseit Tuimebayev, Chairman of the Board and Rector of Al–Farabi Kazakh National University, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech. He noted that in recent years the country has been developing satellite technologies, remote sensing, space communications and astrophysics. KazNU is actively involved in this process.  The University became the first and only university in the country to implement the Space Engineering and Technology Program. KazNU scientists were the first in Kazakhstan and Central Asia to create and launch the Al-Farabi-1 and Al-Farabi-2 nanosatellites. The launch of the NKSAT microsatellite, which is being developed jointly with the Northwestern Polytechnic University of China, is planned for 2026. KazNU currently operates the Farabi Space Space Technology Center, the Kazakh-Chinese Laboratory for Remote Sensing Technologies and Their Applications, the Farabi GIS Center, and laboratories for satellite technologies, geoinformatics, and digital modeling. A modern supercomputer with a capacity of 2000 teraflops has been launched.

At the end of the speech, the head of the university put forward a number of proposals. "Understanding the challenges of the time, KazNU offers initiatives such as: creation of a space consortium between Kazakh and international scientific centers for joint research, support for student startups in the field of space technologies and telecommunications, joint use of the KazNU supercomputer for analysis and storage of satellite data, organization of international summer space schools for the youth of Turkic countries and Central Asia. Asia", - Zhanseit Tuimebayev emphasized.

ICESCO's Science and Technology Advisor, Dr. Muhammad Sharif, also spoke at the event. "Today's event is interesting because of its interactive nature", - he stressed. – It is a platform for investors where they can create new opportunities in using space technologies for various purposes. ICESCO has launched a space technology offering department, and since then we have been conducting extensive training activities. We have already trained more than 100 students from different countries and intend to continue this work.  We thank KazNU and Kazkosmos for their support."

In addition, presentations were made by Driss El Hadani, Deputy Director of the United Nations COPUOS, Harun Nurullah Tanzi, Project Director, M.S. Olzhabekov, Vice Minister of the ICRIAP, Sheikh Zalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Space Agency, Muhiddin Ibrahimov, Deputy Director of Uzbekkosmos, Sherif Sedki, representative of the Egyptian Space Agency, and others.

The forum will last until September 10. Various bright and informative events are planned within the framework of the event: the IV ICESCO international seminar on CanSat, a job fair and training workshops, discussions on investments in space, a meeting with cosmonauts from Kazakhstan, Russia, Romania, Mongolia and Belarus, the signing of a memorandum between ICESCO and KazNU, the ceremony of issuing a commemorative stamp for the 10th anniversary of Aydin's flight. Aimbetova, an excursion to the Asy-Turgen Observatory, a tour to Baikonur and observation of the launch of the Soyuz-2 rocket.

The Space Days Kazakhstan – 2025 forum confirms the growing role of Kazakhstan in the development of international cooperation and scientific research in space.
