QS and THE International Rankings Training Seminar Held at Al-Farabi KazNU

On October 13, 2025, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted a training seminar on QS and THE international university rankings for deans, deputy deans, heads of departments, and faculty ranking coordinators.
The event was organized as part of the university’s systematic efforts to enhance its standing in global academic rankings and to implement the strategic directives of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, aimed at developing science and strengthening the international competitiveness of national education.
Gulzira Kazhmuratovna Vasilina, Director of the Center for Strategic Development, delivered a presentation outlining the QS WUR 2026 methodology and analyzing the performance of Kazakhstani universities. According to QS data, more than 8,400 universities from 106 countries participate in the global ranking, with 20 representing Kazakhstan. Al-Farabi KazNU maintains its leading position among national universities, ranking 166th with an overall score of 59.8 out of 100.
Particular attention during the seminar was paid to the registration of academic experts and employers, whose assessments directly influence the university’s performance in the QS rankings. It was noted that expert registration is open until January 31, 2026.
The seminar also discussed priorities for increasing international publications and citation rates, expanding partnerships, and strengthening the academic reputation of faculties.
From the Higher School of Economics and Business, the participants included Dean Zh. Zh. Ermekova, Deputy Dean for Science, Innovation, and International Relations D. B. Kanagatova, Deputy Dean for Academic and Educational Work D. A. Sadykhanova, as well as Heads of Departments:

• R. B. Sartova — Department of Finance and Accounting;
• Z. B. Akhmetova — Department of Business Technologies;
• G. S. Smagulova — Department of Management.
The seminar also brought together QS ranking coordinators from the faculty departments, who discussed current priorities for improving academic and research performance indicators.
The event served as an effective platform for exchanging experience and developing joint strategies to further advance Al-Farabi KazNU’s position in global education rankings.
