The directions of using the supercomputer have been determined
A seminar dedicated to the capabilities of a supercomputer in the implementation of scientific and educational tasks and projects of the University was held at the Faculty of Law of al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
The event was attended by scientists, teachers and staff of the Faculty of Law.
The seminar was led by Amirkhan Temirbayev, Director of the Farabi Supercomputer Center. In the presentation, he highlighted the wide application and unlimited possibilities of the 2000 TFLOPS supercomputer, delivered to the treasury by Qingdao Aucma Import & Export Co in 2024 and launched in the third quarter of 2025 with the support of ZTE Kazakhstan.
"In order for the supercomputer to function fully, we have created a full-fledged infrastructure in the form of a data center, which includes an energy supply, cooling system, etc. Today, it is one of the most powerful supercomputers not only in the country, but also in Central Asia. Any tasks on this supercomputer are solved 10 thousand times faster than on a conventional one. Today, the supercomputer ranks 550th in the world, but the world is changing very fast, especially with the development of AI. Therefore, our task is to use all its possibilities to the maximum in the near future", - the speaker said.
Further, Amirkhan Temirbaev elaborated on the directions in which the capabilities of a supercomputer can be used, in particular, for long-term weather forecasts, in the sustainable development of the city of Almaty, the creation of a digital twin, the improvement of ecology, climate, etc. These projects are currently under discussion in the Akimat of the city. The task of scientists is to generate ideas and actively use a supercomputer in the implementation of projects. At the same time, the Office of Digitalization under the Akimat of Almaty is ready to finance them.
A discussion took place after the presentation. The seminar participants were able to ask questions and receive complete, meaningful answers.
