“Contemporary Kazakh Prose: Leading Trends, New Names, and Research Perspectives” International Scientific and Practical Conference

On October 23, 2025, the Department of Russian Philology and World Literature of the Faculty of Philology at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Contemporary Kazakh Prose: Leading Trends, New Names, and Research Perspectives.”

The event was held within the framework of grant funding from the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan under project AR19679652 “Contemporary Russian Prose of Kazakhstan: Leading Trends, Genre Studies, Plot Structures, and the Hero.”

During the plenary session, participants discussed the current state of Kazakh prose, its genre diversity, artistic trends, and issues of identity and modernization of the literary process.

The session was moderated by PhD, Associate Professor, and Head of the Department of Russian Philology and World Literature at Al-Farabi KazNU Alena Sergeevna Demchenko, and Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, and Executive Secretary of the Conference Enkar Tolymkhanovna Kakilbayeva.

Welcoming remarks were delivered by prominent scholars and representatives of the literary community:

– Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor at RUDN University (Russia), and Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Polilingualism and Transcultural Practices” Uldanay Maksutovna Bakhtikireeva;

– Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor at the Kazakhstan Branch of Lomonosov Moscow State University Tatyana Vasilievna Krivoshchapova;

– PhD, Lecturer at Selçuk University (Turkey) Zeyne Skendirkyzy Orazbekova;

– Candidate of Philological Sciences, Head of the Department of International Relations and World Literature at the M.O. Auezov Institute of Literature and Art Svetlana Viktorovna Ananyeva.

Special attention was drawn to the presentations by contemporary Kazakh writers, including Yuri Serebryansky, one of the founders of the “OLSHA” Association of Writers and Employees (Almaty), and Maria Omar, writer, journalist, practicing psychologist, and author of the popular Telegram channel “Honey and a Bit of Wormwood.”

The conference brought together writers, researchers, lecturers, and doctoral students, becoming a significant event in the scientific and cultural life of the Faculty of Philology.
