Traditional Ayagoz District Physics and Mathematics Olympiad named after the honored teacher Zhenis Omirbekuly

On October 13, 2025, the VII traditional district Olympiad in physics and mathematics named after “Honored Teacher – Zhenis Omirbekuly” was held at O. Menayakuly Secondary School in Barshatas village, Ayagoz district, Abai region.

This event is dedicated to the life and scientific legacy of Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor, and alumnus of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute, scientist and educator at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University — Zhenis Omirbekuly.

Honoring the life and legacy of a scientist-teacher

Zhenis Omirbekuly, a native of the Shubartau region and alumnus of O. Menayakuly School, devoted his life to teaching at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

To honor his memory:

  • In 2016, a laboratory named after him was opened at KazNU’s Faculty of Physics and Technology;
  • In 2019, a mathematics classroom was opened in Barshatas village.

Purpose and organization of the Olympiad

The district Olympiad is part of the Republican Olympiad held since 2009 at KazNU in memory of the scientist-teacher.

Organizers: KazNU associate professors Rustem Manatbayev, Mukhtar Isatayev, Zhanibek Baytulenov,
the staff of O. Menayakuly School, and sponsor Sayat Omirbekov.

Since the 2018 memorandum of cooperation between KazNU and the school, the event has been held annually at a high level.

A tradition combining science and education

At the opening ceremony, local elders and educators gave speeches, and students presented a concert program.

Students of grades 9–11 participated, showcasing their knowledge in physics and mathematics.

Winners received diplomas, certificates of appreciation, and cash prizes:

🥇 1st place — 3 students × 60,000 KZT
🥈 2nd place — 6 students × 30,000 KZT
🥉 3rd place — 9 students × 20,000 KZT

Teachers of first-place winners also received letters of appreciation and 20,000 KZT awards.
Teachers trained by KazNU scientists were presented with professional development certificates.
