SDG-4: Students’ Cultural Visit to the Theater

26 october, 2025

On October 26, 2025, students and faculty members of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics and the Faculty of International Relations of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University visited the Gabith Musrepov State Academic Kazakh Theater for Children and Youth. The purpose of the event was to enhance cultural and spiritual values, develop aesthetic taste, and foster students’ interest in art. During the visit, participants enjoyed the play «Hamlet. The Last Days».

The main goal of this initiative was to strengthen young people’s interest in theatrical art and to promote a deeper understanding of national and world cultural heritage through the language of the stage. This cultural trip, organized by the university, had a significant impact on the students’ spiritual development.

The theater’s repertoire includes works by both Kazakh and international playwrights, all aimed at inspiring deep reflection and aesthetic appreciation among young audiences.

The play «Hamlet. The Last Days» is a new directorial interpretation of the famous tragedy «Hamlet» by the great figure of world literature, William Shakespeare. The production was directed by Dina Zhumabayeva, who reimagined the classical work through a modern theatrical lens, revealing timeless themes of human conscience, power and justice, truth and deceit in a profound philosophical context relevant to today’s society.

The staging was enriched with modern visual elements — a red carpet, a symbolic interplay of light and shadow depicting space, dynamic decorations, and video projections — all of which created a unique atmosphere and enhanced the emotional depth of the performance.

These artistic decisions allowed the audience to feel Hamlet’s inner turmoil and spiritual struggle. The outstanding performance of the actors, the deep philosophical content, and the artistic integrity of the production were met with genuine admiration from the students.

After the performance, the audience shared their impressions, discussing the director’s choices, the portrayal of the characters, and the play’s resonance with modern realities. Such cultural activities not only foster young people’s respect for national culture and art, but also broaden their creative outlook. For the students, this trip became not merely a form of recreation, but a true lesson in spiritual and cultural enrichment.
