At Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the Library of Al-Farabi hosted the International Spring School “Islamic Heritage in the Modern Era”, jointly organized by the Department of Religious Studies and Cultural Studies of the Faculty of Philosophy and Political Science, the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), and the Institute of Education Integration (IKI). The event addressed several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Quality Education, Gender Equality, and Partnerships for Sustainable Development.

The spring school exhibition featured monographs and research works published by the department’s professors and lecturers, as well as grant-supported projects and studies by domestic scholars in the field of Islamic research.

All invited speakers were highly qualified professors. Among the domestic scholars were Professors K. Begalinova and K. Borbasova (PhD in Philosophy), while international speakers included:

  • Ravza Altuntaş-Çakır, Marmara University, Turkiye

  • Shuruq Nagib, Lancaster University, UK

  • Gapur Oziev, Director of the Institute of Education Integration, Georgia

  • Süleyman Derin, Faculty of Theology, Marmara University

  • Nagihan Haliloğlu, Associate Professor, Department of Western Languages and Literature, Bosphorus University

  • Isa Yılmaz, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Istanbul University of Culture, Turkey

These experts delivered in-depth lectures on their latest research.

The conference featured comprehensive presentations on contemporary topics, including:

  • The interaction of Islam with politics, economics, psychology, and digitalization in the context of globalization

  • Gender issues in the Quran

  • Islamic heritage in philosophy and Sufism

  • The integrative and disintegrative functions of Islam in modern society

The event facilitated lively discussions among participants and speakers. In addition to KazNU students and faculty, the spring school welcomed international attendees from Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, and Georgia, participating both online and offline. The hybrid format allowed for a wider audience and greater engagement.

At the closing ceremony, certificates were awarded to all speakers and participants, marking the successful completion of the week-long program. The International Spring School “Islamic Heritage in the Modern Era” proved to be highly productive and enriching for all involved.
