Office of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Since 2021, the Office for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion of Al-Farabi KazNU will work on the basis of generally accepted laws and principles of non-discrimination. Ensuring equal opportunity and inclusion is a key element of respect for human rights.
The organization and coordination of the activities of the Office for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion is carried out on the basis of:
1. Development strategy of the Republic of Kazakhstan until 2050;
2. Concept of social development of the Republic of Kazakhstan until 2030;
3. Strategic development plan of the Republic of Kazakhstan until 2025;
4. National projects of the Republic of Kazakhstan (10 national projects);
5. University Charter and development program of Al-Farabi KazNU for 2022-2026;
6. Sustainable Development Goals:
• social stability;
• social influence.
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University has always treated people with disabilities with care and strives to do everything possible to make people with disabilities feel more comfortable.
The university has the following social facilities:
- Student Service Center – SSC "Keremet" on the principle of "one window",
- Cinema,
- Library,
- Supermarket,
- Canteens,
- Buffets,
- Washing house,
- Student houses,
- Beauty salon,
- Pharmacy,
- Medical Center,
- Sports and recreation camp of KazNU named after al-Farabi on the shore of Lake Issyk-Kul.
The university has elevators, including in the following buildings:
- Library, 3 elevators,
- Student houses, 8 elevators,
- Administration building, 4 elevators,
- House of Young scientists, 2 elevators
- Building of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, 2 elevators,
- Building of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, 2 elevators,
- Building of the Faculty of Physics and Technology, 2 elevators,
- Fifth building, 2 elevators.
The university has 2 escalators in the buildings of the Keremet SSC.
All buildings of the university are equipped with ramps for unhindered entry of people with disabilities.
There are parking spaces for disabled drivers in the university parking lots.
For students with disabilities, as well as for students whose parents have disabilities, there are discounts when paying for tuition.
The Students' Union "Sunkar" provides social support for students with disabilities, such as financial assistance during the semester, as well as preferential vouchers to the Sports and Recreation Camp of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University on the shore of Lake Issyk-Kul.

- promoting the preservation of interethnic and interfaith harmony at the university, stability in society;
- development of proposals for events promoting the development of friendly relations between representatives of nationalities studying and working at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, promoting their spiritual and cultural revival and development based on the principle of equality;
- formation of students' political culture based on civilized and democratic norms;
- search for compromises to resolve social contradictions arising in society.
March 21: Al-Farabi KazNU is represented as a key speaker at the opening of the International Multidisciplinary Conference “Inclusive Education and Accessibility” at the Near East University, Cyprus.
The topic of the report “Inclusive education at universities in Kazakhstan” reflects SDG 4, SDG 5, SDG 17. Dr. Gainiya Tazhina, Director of the Scientific and Practical Center for Inclusive Environment, al-Farabi KazNU, is a key speaker of the conference. She reported on inclusion at higher education institutions in Kazakhstan.
6.03.2024. International Summit SDGs
March 6th, 2024. The 2nd International Summit SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGs) was held at the Near East University (Nicosia, Cyprus). The summit is organized online in partnership of the Near East University (Nicosia, Cyprus), Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (Almaty, Kazakhstan) and the University of Kyrenia (Kyrenia, Cyprus). As part of the Summit, a discussion was conducted on institutional strategies and actions in the implementation of the SDGs, on the role of the SDGs in the development of higher education using the examples of Kazakhstan and Algeria. Al-Farabi Kazakh National University was represented by Dr. Tazhina G.O. with the report on Best SDG practices. The report discussion resulted in recommendations and projections for future accelerated progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the period up to 2030.
