Scientists of KazNU at the AMIC International Conference
SDG-17 The Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC) a leading global scientific organization in the field of media and communication with more than half a century of history since its founding in 1971 - held its annual international conference in Mumbai, India, from 9 to 11 October 2025.
The conference, titled Navigating Digital Transformation in Media, Public Relations, and Advertising brought together prominent researchers in media, communication, film, artificial intelligence, and the creative industries from across the world.
Three representatives of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University took part in this prestigious academic forum: Associate Professor Karlyga Mysayeva, Professor Saule Barlybayeva, and PhD candidate Dias Azimzhanov. They presented their research findings on media transformation, digital culture, and cinema studies in Kazakhstan to the international scholarly community.
Associate Professor Karlyga Mysayeva delivered a report at the session Redefining Communication Competencies in Today’s Digital Ecosystem, addressing the urgent need to adapt communication curricula to the demands of the digital era. In recognition of her significant contribution to journalism education and media research in the region, AMIC honored Professor Mysayeva with a special award - making her the first laureate from Central Asia.
Professor Saule Barlybayeva presented her research Media Culture of the Digital Society: On the Example of Kazakhstan, offering insights into the transformation of digital cultural practices and the regional specificities of media evolution.
PhD student Dias Azimzhanov delivered a presentation titled Cinema as Socio-Cultural Memory: The Case of Kazakh New Wave Cinema, highlighting the role of Kazakh cinema in shaping historical and collective memory. His talk took place within the section Convergence of Media and Creative Industries and prompted a productive discussion.
The outcomes of the conference demonstrated the growing integration of Kazakhstan’s research in media and communication into the global academic space, as well as the steadily strengthening position of KazNU scholars in the international scientific discourse.
