PhD students of the UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development took part in a training conducted by a Stanford University expert
On November 19, an educational training session was held at the Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction, delivered by Liza Goldberg, a PhD candidate in Earth Systems at Stanford University and a researcher with National Geographic and NASA. The training topic was “Forest Analysis and Land Use Change.”
The event was attended by doctoral students of the UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management, representing the educational programs Ecology and Geoecology and Environmental Management, as well as the Head of the Chair, T.A. Bazarbayeva.

Participants were introduced to modern approaches to:
- mapping and assessing forest loss and gain;
- analyzing forest conditions using vegetation indices;
- modeling net primary productivity and biomass;
- classifying and monitoring changes in land cover and land use.
Such trainings provide valuable opportunities to enhance professional competencies and strengthen international scientific cooperation in the fields of sustainable development and ecology.
