KazNU's experience was presented in Yerevan
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University took part in the international conference GIS Technology Days in Armenia, dedicated to current trends in the development of geographic information systems and their role in industry digital transformation.
Scientists, analysts, and researchers from CIS universities were invited to the conference.
The theme of the event, held in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, this year was: "Geoinformation systems as a key driving force of the digital transformation of the 21st century". The program featured reports on technologies for creating digital twins, the use of GeoAI in processing Earth remote sensing data, as well as GIS solutions for the agricultural sector. International experts emphasized that intelligent geospatial data processing is becoming a fundamental basis for process management in various industries.
Omirzhan Taukebayev, General Director of the Cluster of Engineering and High-tech Technologies, spoke at the conference on behalf of KazNU. In his report "Geospatial analysis and Data Science: the experience of al-Farabi Kazakh National University", he presented the results of the introduction of geoinformation technologies into the scientific infrastructure of the university. Special attention was paid to relevant areas of geodata analysis, modern modeling methods, and the integration of GIS approaches into academic fields. The functionality of GIS programs for monitoring land degradation and desertification processes was also presented. In particular, such areas as LULC classification of land use and land cover, morphometric analysis based on GIS, geospatial analysis using the ArcGIS Model Builder, determination of soil erosion using the RUSLE model, creation of geoportals and much more were considered.
"Geographic information technology today is a new paradigm of scientific precision and data–driven decision-making. At KazNU, we conduct comprehensive scientific research and train young specialists to work with modern tools of geoanalytics",- Omirzhan Taukebayev noted.

The conference also highlighted the strategic cooperation between KazNU and Data+ International LLC, the official distributor of ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute) in Kazakhstan. Al-Farabi Kazakh National University became the first university in the CIS to conclude a memorandum of cooperation with the company, which opens up new opportunities for expanding scientific and technical projects and international initiatives in the field of geoinformation research.
The results of the event confirmed KazNU's commitment to strengthen its position in the field of geoanalytics, develop international partnerships and strengthen the implementation of GIS technologies in science, education and high-tech industries.
