A scientific seminar for doctoral students was held at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics
On November 21, 2025, a scientific seminar of doctoral students was held at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics. The event focused on discussing modern research directions in biology, genetics, biotechnology, and medicine, and on aligning them with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The main objective of the seminar was not only to highlight the scientific value of the doctoral students’ research projects but also to demonstrate their contribution to societal development.
The presented studies covered important areas such as improving human health, promoting sustainable agriculture, protecting ecosystems, and implementing biotechnological innovations. Each project was based on practical results aimed at addressing specific national and global challenges.
During the seminar, the following research directions were presented:
- Early disease detection using microRNA,
- Genetic characterization of Kazakh sheep breeds,
- Analysis of the genetic basis of athletic performance,
- Development of mRNA vaccines against avian influenza,
- Study of the spread of hazardous pathogens affecting food safety,
- Application of CRISPR/Cas13 technology against plant viruses.
These studies correspond to SDGs 2, 3, 4, 9, 12, and 15, supporting sustainable development principles in healthcare, agriculture, biosafety, and innovative technologies.
In conclusion, the seminar emphasized that the doctoral students research is significant not only for the scientific community but also for long-term societal development, with results that are directed toward practical applications.
