SDG 4 “Quality Education” Animal Communication and Human Language: A Leadership Lecture within the “Scientists of the Future” Project
On December 8, a leadership lecture was held at the Faculty of Philology as part of the international project “Scientists of the Future” for students of the Faculty of Journalism. The lecture was delivered by Natalia Aleksandrovna Bozhenkova, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor, and Acting Vice-Rector of the A. S. Pushkin State Institute of the Russian Language and Script.
The topic of the lecture was “Animal Communication vs Human Language.”
During the presentation, the speaker thoroughly highlighted the specific features of communication in the animal world, examined various forms of signal transmission across species, and compared them with the phenomenon of human language. Special attention was paid to the fundamental differences between instinctive, biologically conditioned animal signals and the complex linguistic system of humans, which includes conscious speech activity, abstract thinking, and cultural conditioning. The lecture also touched upon the evolution of communicative forms as well as contemporary research in linguistics and cognitive science.
The lecture was attended by faculty students and lecturers of the Department of Russian Philology and World Literature. Natalia Aleksandrovna’s presentation made a significant contribution to expanding students’ knowledge of modern linguistics, interspecies communication, and current scientific trends in the study of language.
The event was organized at a high professional level, sparked strong interest among students, and contributed to strengthening their research motivation.
