Career guidance event for schoolchildren in the context of Sustainable Development Goals
A career guidance event was held at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology for students of grades 9-10 of the Beiterek private school (Shymkent). The students, together with the career guidance teacher, got acquainted with the educational programs of the faculty, the specifics of the educational process and the competencies formed by future specialists. The event was aimed at supporting Sustainable Development Goal 4 — "Quality education".
The students were introduced to the modern educational and research laboratories of the faculty, as well as the educational program "6B05314 - Petrochemistry and Chemical Biology" of the Department of Physical Chemistry, Catalysis and Petrochemistry. The guests were told about the sought—after professions in the petrochemical industry and the employment prospects of graduates, which contributes to the achievement of SDG 8 - "Decent work and economic growth."
The participants were particularly interested in the Petrochemistry Research Laboratory, where projects aimed at developing innovative technologies and reducing the environmental burden are being carried out. This area corresponds to SDG 9 — "Industry, innovation and infrastructure" and SDG 12 — "Responsible consumption and production".
The event was an important step in the development of professional orientation of schoolchildren, helped them see the possibilities of chemical education and consciously approach the choice of a future profession.
