Seminar on Climate Change and Adaptation to Local Risks for Students of Central Asian Universities
Within the framework of SDG 4 “Quality Education,” SDG 11 “Sustainable Cities and Communities,” and SDG 13 “Climate Action,” an educational seminar was conducted for students of universities in Central Asia, focusing on climate change, local climatic and environmental risks, and adaptation measures for communities. The seminar aimed to enhance climate and environmental literacy among young people and to develop a scientifically grounded understanding of contemporary climate challenges at regional and local levels.

The seminar was delivered by Zhanar Raimbekova, a young researcher and Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences. The event addressed key risks characteristic of Central Asian countries, including debris flows and floods, extreme heat waves, deterioration of air quality and smog, as well as their impacts on public health, infrastructure, and the sustainable development of territories.
Special attention was given to climate change adaptation issues, including practical measures to reduce population vulnerability, the role of early warning systems, public awareness and engagement, and the importance of sustainable natural resource management under increasing climate extremes.

The seminar brought together students and young researchers from various universities across Central Asia, fostering inter-university dialogue and the exchange of knowledge and experience. The event made a significant contribution to the development of educational initiatives aimed at promoting responsible attitudes toward climate, safety, and sustainable development in the region.
