Scientists from KazNU contribute to the development of talented youth through their participation in state programs to identify and support gifted schoolchildren (SDGs 4, 10, 17)
Faculty members of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at Al-Farabi KazNU actively participate in the implementation of state programs to identify and support gifted children and talented youth, serving as experts in national scientific project competitions and national subject Olympiads.
At the invitation of the Center for the Identification and Support of Gifted Children and Talented Youth "Almaty Daryny" of the Education Department of the Almaty City Akimat, leading scientists from the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at Al-Farabi KazNU participated from November 26 to December 19, 2025, as chairs and jury members for the district and city stages of national scientific project competitions and the national subject Olympiad in Biology:
· National Scientific Project Competition for Students in Grades 9-11.
· The "Zerde" Republican Competition of Research Projects and Creative Works for students in grades 2-7.
· Republican Olympiads for students in grades 7-8 in general subjects.
· Republican Olympiads for students in grades 9-11 in general subjects.

The jury for the school students' research project competition in the "Environmental Protection" section was Zhandos Makhabatovich Basygraev, Associate Professor of the Department of Biophysics, Biomedicine, and Neuroscience at KazNU and PhD candidate in Biology.
The jury for the "Zerde" competition was chaired by Gaukhar Telepbekkyzy, PhD candidate in the Department of Biophysics, Biomedicine, and Neuroscience at KazNU.
The Olympiad jury was chaired by Zhazira Kabulovna Zhunusbayeva, Head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at KazNU, PhD in Biology, and Associate Professor.
Other scientists from the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology also served as chairs and members of the jury for various sections. Hundreds of Almaty schoolchildren participated in the district stages of the competition.
The participation of KazNU scientists in the expert committees of state competitions is of strategic importance for the development of the country's scientific potential. Professional evaluation of schoolchildren's projects promotes the early identification of talent, fosters interest in science and research, and ensures continuity between school and university education.
This activity directly aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals:
· SDG 4 (Quality Education) – ensure inclusive and equitable quality education, support talented youth;
· SDG 10 (Reduce Inequalities) – provide equal opportunities for the development of children's abilities, regardless of social status;
· SDG 17 (Partnerships for Sustainable Development) – Strengthening cooperation between universities and public educational institutions.
The systematic participation of KazNU faculty in evaluating schoolchildren's research projects demonstrates the university's social responsibility and its contribution to shaping the future of Kazakhstan's scientific community.
