The Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology became a platform for the international initiative "Scientists of the Future" to discuss sustainable livestock farming with the scientific and civil society communities to ensure food security, responsible consumption, and production (SDGs 2, 12, 17)
The Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at KazNU organized a lecture on future livestock farming as part of the "Scientists of the Future" initiative
The Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at Al-Farabi KazNU served as a platform for an educational event within the international initiative "Scientists of the Future." On December 9, 2025, Elena Aleksandrovna Korochkina, Doctor of Veterinary Sciences, Associate Professor, and Head of the Department of Genetic and Reproductive Biotechnology at the St. Petersburg State University of Veterinary Medicine, spoke. During the visit, the expert gave a lecture, discussing such topical issues as "Animal Husbandry of the Future: How Are Science and Technology Changing Milk and Meat?", "Cryopreservation of Animal Genetic Resources or How to Preserve Animal Genetic Biodiversity," and "Assisted Reproductive Technologies in Animal Husbandry."
The event attracted a wide audience, including interested scientists from research institutes and universities, students, master's students, doctoral students, interested residents of Almaty, and KazNU staff. More than 40 people attended, more than half of whom were guests from outside the university. Participants gained up-to-date knowledge about modern biotechnologies aimed at increasing livestock productivity, preserving the genetic diversity of farm animals, and ensuring food security. After the training session, speaker E.A. Korochkina continued the discussion and consultations with interested participants (young scientists, research institute and university staff). During the fruitful discussion, participants exchanged contacts, discussed future collaborations, and the importance of science in developing efficient livestock farming of the future.
This initiative directly contributes to the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 1 (No Poverty) by increasing farm incomes, SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) by increasing the production of high-quality food, and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by implementing sustainable agricultural practices.
