A Webinar by a Professor of Uppsala University Was Held at KazNU within the Framework of SDG 8

On December 23, 2025, at 14:00, the Department of Political Science and Political Technologies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held an online webinar delivered by a visiting professor of Uppsala University (Sweden), Vladislava Vladimirova, entitled “Developing a Culture of Tolerance in Universities: the Experience of Uppsala University.” The event was organized within the framework of Sustainable Development Goal 8 — “Decent Work and Economic Growth.”

The aim of the webinar was to raise awareness among students and faculty about the development of an anti-discrimination culture in the university environment, the prevention of discrimination, bullying, and harassment, as well as to disseminate best international practices for ensuring decent and safe conditions for study and work.

During the event, Professor Vladislava Vladimirova delivered an explanatory lecture in which she presented the institutional mechanisms and policies of Uppsala University aimed at fostering an inclusive university culture, ensuring equal opportunities, and creating a safe academic and working environment. Particular attention was paid to the discussion of practical cases related to discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, social status, and health conditions, as well as to the mechanisms used by university structures to respond to such situations.

The webinar was attended by doctoral students and faculty members. Participants noted the practical relevance of the presented experience and its applicability to the context of Kazakhstani universities.

The webinar contributed to strengthening the anti-discrimination culture and developing an inclusive educational environment at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The event supported the implementation of SDG 8 by enhancing indicators related to safe working and educational environments, equal opportunities, and institutional anti-discrimination measures, and also strengthened the university’s evidence base for participation in the THE Impact Rankings (SDG 8).
