Faculty members of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University participated in the national stage of the international Stemco Science STEM Olympiad within SDG 4 “Quality Education”
On December 6, 2025, the national stage of the international Stemco Science STEM Olympiad was held in Almaty at the Tamos Education School.
The event aimed to develop students’ functional literacy, practice-oriented thinking, and the application of academic knowledge in science and mathematics (STEM — Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). The Olympiad was organized within the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal SDG 4 “Quality Education”, which focuses on expanding access to modern and competitive educational opportunities.
The Olympiad was organized by the educational organizations Edu Vers and Stemco Science Global, with the support of Tamos Education School.
The competition was conducted in several stages. Following the preliminary round, approximately 200 students from grades 1 to 12 representing various regions of the country advanced to the national stage.
The national stage included the following activities:
– Administration of competition tasks in an offline format using electronic devices on the Edu Vers educational platform, developed in accordance with international educational standards;
– Organization of proctoring and academic integrity control to prevent the use of unauthorized materials and artificial intelligence systems;
– Work of the expert jury, including the review of appeal papers, final assessment of results, and participation in the award ceremony for winners and prize recipients;
– A career guidance meeting with students, during which Professor Bolat M. Uralbekov, Head of the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry, introduced participants to the educational and research opportunities of the university and emphasized the importance of systematic learning, academic integrity, and a conscious choice of future professional pathways.
The participation of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University faculty members in the jury and expert procedures was carried out within the framework of implementing SDG 4 “Quality Education”.
The event was attended by:
– approximately 200 students from grades 1–12;
– educators and experts from academic and research institutions;
– volunteers and organizers of the Olympiad.
The final stage of the Olympiad involved individual interviews with winners from grades 9–12 in chemistry, biology, and physics, resulting in the selection of an absolute winner.
The key outcome of the event was an increase in students’ academic motivation and the identification of talented learners oriented toward further development in science and technology. The overall winner received full sponsorship to participate in the international final, which will take place on February 4–8, 2026, in Singapore at the National University of Singapore—one of the world’s leading universities and the top-ranked institution in Asia according to the QS 2026 ranking. In addition, all medalists from grades 9–12 were invited to participate in the international stage of the Olympiad.
