SDG-4 Let us turn to Abai: “If you want to be among wise people, take account of yourself at least once a day; if not — once a week; and at the very least — once a month.” In the outgoing calendar year, together with the staff of the Faculty of Journalism of Al-Farabi University, and with the comprehensive support of our Rector Zhansseit Qanseituly, we reviewed the work accomplished.
📌 Well-known practitioners, seasoned professionals, and prominent figures in the media industry were invited to teach. Among them were writer and journalist Amirhan Mendeke, television and theater veteran Asylbek Ikhsan, media managers Nurzhan Zhalaukyzy, Imanbay Zhubay, Zhusipbek Korgasbek, Serik Zhanbolat, Serik Abikenuly, Erzhan Tolek, as well as film producer Nartai Otegen.
👨🏻🎓👩🏻🎓 A Dissertation Council was established at the faculty, and within seven months, nine PhD dissertations in the field of media were successfully defended under the supervision of Karlyga Mysaeva.
🎓 For the first time in the history of the faculty, 23 doctoral students were admitted during the summer intake under both state-funded and fee-paying programs.
🧑🏻🏫👩🏻🏫 The faculty staff published 32 articles indexed in the Scopus scientific database — the highest result in the faculty’s history.
📚 The faculty’s academic staff published 31 textbooks, teaching aids, monographs, lecture courses, practica, and anthologies.
✒️ Within the dual education system, laboratory and seminar classes began to be held regularly at partner organizations such as the Khabar Agency, Kazakh Newspapers LLP, Atamura Publishing House, the National Book Chamber, Kazakhfilm, and others, under cooperation memorandums.
🎓 Master’s degree programs in “Artificial Intelligence and Media” (AI&Media) were launched in Kazakh, English, and Russian, along with a PhD program in Public Relations. Program developers: Aigerim Alzhanova and Oryntai Oshanova.
📰 Faculty master’s students, using artificial intelligence, published the first scientific-popular and inclusive newspaper in the Kazakh language.
📝 With the support of LG Electronics Kazakhstan, the AI Media LAB (Artificial Intelligence Media Laboratory) was opened.
📍 With the support of the 1985 graduate and statesman Beibit Isabayev, Lecture Hall No. 3 was fully renovated and equipped with modern LED screens.
🖇️ With the support of faculty alumni — Kaspi.kz Executive Director Marzhan Yelshibayeva and Dinara Satzhan — the Marat Barmankulov Television Studio was fully renovated and re-equipped.
📺 A joint convergent project, the program “AI Gylym,” was launched in collaboration with the Marat Barmankulov Television Studio, ALATAU TV channel, and the Aqsham News portal. The host is fourth-year student Aigerim Yesimkhan.
💼 For the first time, the Faculty of Journalism at Al-Farabi KazNU hosted a national employers’ forum titled “Media Industry and Educational Partnership: Issues of Personnel Training.” As part of the forum, cooperation memorandums were signed with 46 employers. Nurlyaiym Danaeva.
✒️ Organized by the Editors-in-Chief Club led by Senator Bibigul Zhexenbay and supported by Alatau Aqparat, a round table titled “Transformation of Mass Media in the Era of Digitalization” was held for the first time.
👛 Over the course of one year, investments totaling 26 million tenge were attracted to the Faculty of Journalism.
