SDG 4. Explaining the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals to students
At Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, an educational and awareness-raising event was held to explain the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals among students.
The purpose of the event was to raise students’ awareness of the significance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), enhance their social responsibility, and foster a conscious attitude toward improving quality education, health, well-being, and overall living standards.
During the event, students were informed that the primary objective of SDG 1 is to eliminate poverty in all its forms. The role of education in improving social conditions, enhancing quality of life, and ensuring equal opportunities was discussed. Students recognized that obtaining quality education contributes to achieving stable income in the future and supports overall societal development.
Within the framework of SDG 2, issues related to proper nutrition, food security, and the efficient use of natural resources were addressed. Students were informed about the impact of a healthy lifestyle and balanced nutrition on human health and sustainable societal development. In addition, the role of young people in ensuring food sustainability through agriculture and science was highlighted.
Within this goal, special attention was given to the importance of physical and mental health. Students were informed about the significance of maintaining good health, avoiding harmful habits, managing stress, and leading an active lifestyle. The important role of the educational environment in promoting a culture of health among young people was particularly emphasized.
The main focus of the event was placed on SDG 4. Students were informed that quality education is the foundation for comprehensive personal development, professional growth, and sustainable societal progress. Special emphasis was placed on the role of the university in enhancing the quality of education and ensuring equal and inclusive access to learning opportunities. The importance of lifelong learning was also highlighted.
The event contributed to expanding students’ knowledge of the Sustainable Development Goals and increasing their sense of social responsibility. Students realized that each individual’s contribution to quality education, health preservation, and social equality is essential. Such educational and awareness-raising activities aim to develop responsible citizens and build a sustainable future.
