Open lesson "combating climate change"

22 december, 2025

The event was attended by the teacher of psychology Sarash Konyrbaeva, as well as a representative of the Department.

During the open lesson, the graduate student introduced students to the scientific significance of climate models, their approaches to the analysis of environmental processes and climate change forecasting. Various models-from a model of the spread of air pollution to models that describe the impact of climate on sea level rise and forest fires-were given by specific examples.

The practical part of the lesson was held in an interactive format: students analyzed the tasks assigned by models in groups and defended their decisions. This contributed to the development of their scientific thinking, analytical and argumentative skills, as well as a culture of teamwork.

It should be noted that this open lesson is directly related to the main theoretical courses of undergraduate students of the 3rd year of the faculty, focused on the specialty. In particular, students at this stage are studying the solution of specific mathematical models and equations describing natural, climatic and environmental processes in the framework of such disciplines as: differential equations; equations of mathematical physics; computational mathematics; numerical methods; fundamentals of modeling and simulation.

During the open lesson, students freely discussed the importance of working with climate models, connecting topics that they are mastering in theory, such as equilibrium models, diffusion processes, reaction-transfer equations, heat exchange models with practical examples.

The lesson conducted by the graduate student revealed the role of Applied and computational mathematics in the study of climate change and allowed students to develop research skills. In addition, this event encouraged students to be responsible for the environment, to be able to analyze the problems of sustainable development through quantitative modeling and to participate in the decision-making process.

Lida Sagimbayeva,

Deputy head of the Department of mathematical and computer modeling for educational, methodological and educational work
