Partnership with the World Bank

25 december, 2025

The partnership of universities with international organizations is of strategic importance in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals. Because such cooperation will increase scientific potential, expand access to global knowledge and contribute to the formation of competencies necessary for solving complex socio-economic and environmental problems.

This partnership will provide an opportunity to develop academic mobility, exchange experience and participate in international research related to access to the SDGs, including areas such as improving the quality of Education (SDGs 4), stimulating innovation and inclusive economic growth (SDGs 8 and 9).

The World Bank is one of the leading global institutions that provides financial, advisory and analytical support to countries in achieving the SDGs. The role of banking is determined not only by the range of resources provided, but also by the ability to form a global development agenda. This contributes to socio-economic changes in every possible way. First of all, MO is the largest multilateral structure that provides long – term funding for projects aimed at reducing poverty, developing human capital, modernizing infrastructure and strengthening the institutional environment. Through the International Bank for reconstruction and development, the International Development Association, Mo provides loans, grants and technical assistance to countries of various income levels and directly contributes to the fulfillment of the goals of SDGs 1 (poverty alleviation), SDGs 8 (Decent Work and economic growth) and SDGs 9 (industrialization, innovation and infrastructure). Cross-country diagnostics, research on Sustainable Development, Assessment of Public Administration and other analytical materials of the World Bank form the basis for the formation of national development strategies coordinated with the SDGs and help determine priorities in the economic, social and environmental policies of countries. In addition, Mo promotes the development of international partnership (SDG 17), resource mobilization and dissemination of best practices in the fields of digitalization, Public Finance Management, Climate Policy and the "green" economy. Thus, the MO's multifaceted approach contributes to ensuring long-term economic growth, social inclusivity and environmental sustainability, making it a key catalyst for Sustainable Development at the global level.

In this regard, recently, the Department of economics of the Higher School of Economics and business organized a guest lecture of economists of the World Bank within the framework of the scientific project AP23489032. The theme of the lecture is "report on the economy of Europe and Central Asia: employment and well-being". Speakers: Mikhail Lokshin – leading economist of the World Bank's chief economist for Europe and Central Asia, and Ivan Torre-senior economist of this department. During the lecture, the importance of reforms aimed at improving stability in developing economies in the Central Asian region, increasing production and labor productivity, expanding the production of goods and services, as well as developing the labor market in accordance with the changing demographic situation of the region was highlighted. The lecture showed the need for scientific and analytical approaches in solving such problems as increasing labor productivity in the region, expanding production potential, adapting the labor market to demographic changes. Access to such accurate data and expert opinions strengthens the research potential of University scientists and provides an important orientation in the alignment of research projects with the SDGs. The partnership with the World Bank provides students with the opportunity to exchange views with world-class experts, contributes to their understanding of global economic processes, development of analytical skills and readiness for the labor market. Thus, the guest lecture not only increases the scientific and intellectual potential of the university, but also strengthens the educational and research mission in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals. Establishing contacts with international experts plays an important role in the implementation of strategic development priorities of the University.
