Lecturer of Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics of Al-Farabi KazNU Conducted Free Courses with SDG Components
Within the framework of expanding interregional academic cooperation and implementing the university’s social mission, faculty members of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University – Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor A.K. Bisenbayev; PhD, Deputy Head of the Department for Academic, Methodological and Educational Affairs, Senior Lecturer A.V. Lovinskaya; and PhD, Senior Lecturer I.T. Smekenov – visited M. Utemisov West Kazakhstan University and the LLP “Educational and Scientific Complex of Experimental and Industrial Aquaculture” (Uralsk) from 2 to 5 October 2025. During the visit, they delivered a series of free educational activities aimed at a broad audience beyond the campus of Al-Farabi KazNU.
The visit programme was designed not only to promote professional exchange between the institutions but also to disseminate up-to-date scientific knowledge among representatives of the wider community. Open lectures and training sessions were organised for educators, young professionals, students, staff of various organisations and all interested participants concerned with sustainable development, environmental issues and modern scientific approaches.

The content of the activities was developed in alignment with the global agenda of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Particular attention was paid to issues of public health and well-being, the role of the environment in shaping quality of life, and the importance of clean water as a key factor for sustainable regional development. The sessions addressed contemporary scientific methods for the treatment of socially significant diseases such as tuberculosis and rabies, as well as approaches to monitoring water resources and other related topics.
Special emphasis was placed on the practical relevance of the knowledge acquired. Participants were introduced to modern molecular-genetic and cytogenetic methods used in the development of scientifically grounded solutions in the fields of public health protection, environmental management and water resources. This approach enabled the integration of theoretical aspects of sustainable development with real regional challenges and the professional activities of the participants.
The implementation of these free courses served as a clear example of partnership in the interest of sustainable development. Inter-university cooperation contributes to the wider dissemination of knowledge, strengthening educational ties and engaging diverse segments of society in achieving the SDGs. Such initiatives enable universities to extend their activities beyond their campuses and to function as centres of public education and scientific expertise.

The conducted activities contributed to the promotion of quality and accessible education, the enhancement of environmental and sanitary literacy among the population, and the development of sustainable partnerships between educational institutions. This initiative confirms the commitment of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 3 “Good Health and Well-Being”, SDG 4 “Quality Education”, SDG 6 “Clean Water and Sanitation”, and SDG 17 “Partnerships for the Goals”, through the development and delivery of free educational programmes for the wider public.
